Im starting early on Christmas gifts, and my boyfriend could really use a new laptop. I have heard that the ipad can do the same things as a laptop, only it is more fun to use. He would mainly use it for fantasy sports, checking email, and surfing the web. What are your thoughts?
Also – if it is ant consolation, I bought him an ipod touch last year for Christmas. Is the ipad basically the same thing, only bigger?

Question by Dan: Can I use iPad with my normal home wireless network without a contract?
I have WiFi at home but have never owned an Apple product in my life. If I buy the 32 GB iPad with WiFi, can I just take it home and it will access my normal non-AT&T wifi? Would I need a contract or a data plan or is it like a laptop where I just connect via a wifi connection and that’s it?

I saw a YouTube video of someone microwaving their iPad while it was running. Within 2 seconds of starting up the microwave oven, the screen went blank. But it took almost 30 seconds before the screen started to warp and shrivel up, and a minute before the iSmoke started to fill the oven.
From a technical perspective, what exactly happened to the iPad in the first 2 seconds that caused the screen to go blank and stop working?

The microwave radiation was converted to a current in the circuits of the IPod
which was enough to fry the transistors.
